Life Insurance: The First Fraternal Benefit

Those familiar with fraternal benefit societies may associate them with the significant amount of charitable work they provide to better the communities they serve, or their common bond of ethnicity, religion, occupation, gender, or shared values. They may also think of the value-added member benefits that many fraternal benefit societies provide such as scholarship programs, health discounts, disaster benefits, and more. While all of these things are part of what a fraternal benefit society is, and are undoubtedly important to the people they assist, none of them are as important as the primary reason fraternal benefit societies exist—to provide life insurance protection to their members.

Life insurance is a difficult thing to think about and talk about. No one wants to imagine dying—especially dying prematurely—but making sure that you have adequate life insurance protection in place is one of the most important things you can do for your loved ones.

Paying claims to our members’ families during their time of need is our primary purpose. If you have ever lost a loved one, you have some idea of the emotional toll such an event can take. Unfortunately, people whose loved ones don’t have adequate life insurance may also experience unnecessary financial burden during an already difficult time. While no amount of money will ease the emotional pain you feel after a loss, it may make navigating life decisions a bit easier.

Regardless of what type of funeral or memorial service your loved one wants, there will be some sort of cost associated with the service, as well as a burial or cremation. These are difficult decisions to make, even without the added worry of whether or not they are financially feasible. If the person who passes away is a financial contributor to his or her household, the rest of the family may have to make some tough decisions including potentially moving, which can be another added stress at a very challenging time. If he or she suffered from a long illness, there could be medical bills coming in long after your loved one is no longer with you.

These are just a few possibilities that no one wants to consider, but unfortunately are unable to be predicted or controlled. With the proper amount of life insurance in place, loved ones are given the financial freedom to focus on their grief, not how to pay the bills. After all, life insurance is the first fraternal benefit.

While there are many things that being a member of a fraternal benefit society such as National Mutual Benefit can offer, please remember that the reason we are really here is to live up to our motto of People Helping People in Time of Need. We want you to have peace of mind knowing that if you pass away, your loved ones will be taken care of.
